Borsipa International receives with deep concern the news and reports that Engineer Bashir Khaled was subjected to torture by the Abbas al-Tamimi Brigade of the Federal Police, two of his sons, and officers from the Hittin Police Station in Baghdad. This painful incident led to a severe deterioration in Engineer Bashir’s health, resulting in the loss of one of his kidneys. He is currently in critical condition at Al-Yarmouk Hospital in Baghdad.

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior and the Iraqi judiciary must take immediate and serious action to investigate this crime and hold the perpetrators accountable, regardless of their rank or position.
Violation of International Laws
Torture constitutes a flagrant violation of international human rights laws, which prohibit all forms of torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment. Borsipa International has reported cases of torture in many countries around the world, underscoring the urgent need to strengthen legal safeguards and independent oversight to prevent such violations.¹
