Al-Yemen

Thousands of children have been killed or maimed since the start of the conflict, and thousands more have been recruited into the fighting. Years of conflict, misery and grief have left up to 8 million people in Yemen in need of mental health and psychosocial services.
The ongoing humanitarian crisis has increased the vulnerability of children and women to exploitation, violence and abuse, child labour, killing and maiming, and the recruitment and use of children by parties to the conflict as combatants and in various support roles, such as domestic violence, gender-based violence, child marriage and psychological distress.
Yemen remains one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world, with more than 11 million children in need of one or more forms of humanitarian assistance.
After eight years of conflict, Yemen’s national social and economic systems remain on the brink of total collapse, while conflict, large-scale displacement and recurrent climatic shocks have left families vulnerable to outbreaks of infectious diseases. Millions of children lack access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene, and the country continues to suffer outbreaks of cholera, measles, diphtheria and other vaccine-preventable diseases.

We will focus our proactive efforts on four strategic focus areas:

Criminal justice system: Enforcing human rights and reducing systemic discrimination by seeking accountability in the criminal justice system. Poverty: Advancing the field of human rights law by demonstrating how systemic discrimination creates and perpetuates poverty, and by addressing poverty within a human rights framework. Education: Promote and strengthen a culture of human rights in Yemen that includes rights and responsibilities, with a special focus on the education of children and youth and addressing systemic discrimination through reform of the educational system.
